10th, March, 1912.
I have just been informed by Mr Nowrojee
Mody who tomorrow presents the University Baildings to
the community of this Colony on behalf of his late father
Sir Hormusjee Mody, that he proposes to present me with
a silver model of them. I have also heard this afternoon
that some of the leading Chinese in taking farewell of my
wife propose to present "a few articles to her as a slight
token of their affection and esteem". I am unaware of
the nature of these articles, but as I have so frequently
impressed upon the Chinese the absolute prohibition under
the rules of the service against receiving any gifts, I
do not suppose that they will be of any great intrinsic
value.
2.
I have the honour to request your sanction
to receive these articles. Should you consider it unadvis-
able to accord it I will return them and I have so informed
the donors.
